Why Labour Aren’t Rallying the Troops

Posted on September 14, 2016December 12, 2018 by Jay Baker

In 1992, it was The End of History and we were “rockin’ in the free world.” But how did it happen? As Oliver Stone repeatedly demonstrates in his brilliant series The Untold History of the United States, key figures are important to diplomatic relations. By the late 1970s, the days of a trade union talisman…

Labour Loyalties and Where They Lie

Posted on September 11, 2016December 12, 2018 by Jay Baker

The 1980s in which I grew up were dark days. The Conservative Party, having won the 1979 general election, dominated British politics, winning again in 1983, and beating Neil Kinnock’s Labour in both 1987 and 1992 before his party decided he was “unelectable.” Get used to that word. It gets thrown around with greater frequency…

About

Hi! I’m Jay Baker from Sheffield, UK.

I have nearly twenty years of experience making documentaries, writing books, and launching and running projects helping to empower communities in both Britain and North America.

(This means I’m also old enough to remember AltaVista – although I’m still getting asked for ID!)

I’m passionate about politics, pop culture, creativity, and technology – topics I blog about here, from a socially conscious, punk perspective.

The short version of the explanation for my handle is being patronisingly called “your little duke” by an American gun nut while I was hanging out with his ex-wife at a Hard Rock Cafe. Ask me for the long version.

I am part of socialimpactcpl with my partner, Jane Watkinson, and with her the co-founder of AFC Unity, and I’m also the founder of Libre Digital.

If you like, you can follow my “micro-blogging” on Twitter, where – if this sort of thing impresses you – I’ve built up a decent following that includes Yoko Ono, Naomi Wolf, Birgitta Jonsdottir, Heather Wahlquist, Stacy Herbert, Abby Martin, Owen Jones, former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, and Tom Watson until I supported Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader, at which point he unfollowed and blocked me.
